Sarah Hirst
I completed a Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching (Hons) in 2001. Since this time I have taught classroom music, singing and directed choirs in primary and secondary schools across Melbourne and Ballarat. I have conducted the Australian Youth Choir and perform as a vocalist in a variety of projects.
I have a passion for preparing young musicians for today’s music industry. My students develop as well-rounded musicians with the ability to participate in a variety of music-making environments. They discover their own unique sound and are given opportunities to improvise, compose their own music and create their own performance opportunities. They develop skills in using music technology to aid their own musical growth in self-expression and skills advancement.
I ensure that young voices are carefully nurtured and vocal techniques are taught for sustainable singing. Older singing students develop the technical skills to sing in a variety of styles. Singing students are offered the opportunity to learn how to accompany themselves on piano, keyboard and/or ukulele.
Whether teaching individual students, small groups or whole classes, my lessons are creative, fun, positive and planned carefully to meet the individual needs of each student.
